At competition level, very little is left to chance.
Competitors can spend months selecting coffees, refining recipes, testing equipment and rehearsing presentations. Water is another variable they can deliberately test and design around that goal.
APAX LAB has become part of that process for competitors around the world, not because water alone wins competitions, but because it gives brewers another tool they can control.
So why are more competitors choosing APAX LAB?
The reasons tend to come back to four things: ease of use, meaningful sensory impact, precision and repeatability, and trust built through competition use.
1. Simpler Competition Water Preparation, More Time to Refine
Competition preparation already involves an extraordinary number of variables.
Adding water design should create more control, not unnecessary friction.
Building water from individual mineral salts can involve weighing ingredients, calculating formulations, preparing stock solutions and repeating the process each time a competitor wants to explore a different direction.
APAX LAB was designed to simplify that part of the workflow.

Our pre-formulated mineral concentrates can be added directly to brewing water or used post-brew when appropriate, giving competitors a practical way to explore different profiles without rebuilding every recipe from its individual mineral components.
The value is not convenience for convenience's sake, it is more time spent tasting.
A competitor can adjust, brew, evaluate and taste again, with more attention going towards understanding what actually changed in the cup.
That iterative process appears repeatedly in the competition stories shared with us.
Before winning the 2026 Thailand AeroPress Championship, Ponlasit Peepanich spent months analysing his coffee, refining technique, experimenting with water chemistry, and comparing different mineral profiles through blind tastings.
For competitors working through that volume of experimentation, an easier way to prepare and adjust water means water design can remain part of everyday training rather than becoming a separate project of its own.
2. Small Mineral Adjustments, Meaningful Sensory Differences
Ease of use only matters if the adjustments themselves are useful.
Mineral composition can influence how we perceive characteristics such as sweetness, acidity, florality, clarity, texture, mouthfeel, and balance.
At competition level, where a brewer may be trying to communicate a very specific sensory experience, those differences can become particularly valuable.
APAX gives competitors a way to treat mineral composition as another intentional variable. Depending on the coffee, the goal might be greater perceived sweetness, brighter acidity, floral definition, texture or clearer separation between flavours.
The point is not that more mineralisation is inherently better, or that one profile works for every competition coffee. Quite the opposite actually.

2026 Japan Brewers Cup Champion Wataru Iidaka began his water development by asking what kind of flavour experience he wanted to create, then worked backwards towards a profile supporting the florals, fruit character, sweetness, and clarity he wanted to present.
2026 Turkey Brewers Cup Champion Çetin Alpay Başkan took a different approach, using separate water profiles for two contrasting coffees within the same routine.
And 2026 Costa Rica Brewers Cup Champion Emiliano Hellmund spent months refining a combination of KONFLUX, JAMM, and LYLAC around the sweetness, silky texture, and clarity he wanted from his Obata Amarillo.
Different competitors. Different coffees. Different recipes.
APAX is not intended to provide one answer to all of them. Its value lies in giving competitors a practical way to make those decisions themselves.
3. Precision and Repeatability in Competition Water
Experimentation only becomes useful when you can reproduce what you learned.
If yesterday's cup was exceptional but today's water is materially different, it becomes much harder to understand why. This is where precision and repeatability become particularly important in competition preparation.
APAX concentrates can be dosed by drops for quick, incremental adjustments or by weight when greater measurement precision is needed.
A competitor can document a profile, reproduce it, compare the result, and continue refining from a known starting point. The process becomes: adjust → taste → record → reproduce → refine.
That matters across months of training, but also when a competitor needs to recreate their final recipe between practice sessions, competition rounds, or different locations.
2025 World AeroPress Champion Nemo Pop built his Worlds preparation around consistency. Before seeing the competition coffee, he developed refined water profiles for different coffee types while keeping the same base recipe, grind size and brewing method, giving him a controlled framework he could adapt once the coffee was revealed. With just 12 hours to dial in the competition coffee, that repeatability became especially valuable.
Precision does not remove creativity from water design; it gives that creativity a repeatable reference point alongside the coffee, recipe and presentation.
4. Tested and Trusted in Competition
Ultimately, competitors decide for themselves whether any tool deserves a place in their routine.
That is why seeing APAX LAB used on competition stages means more to us than simply being able to list championship results.

By 2026, our minerals have been used by more than 250 national champions, alongside competitors across multiple world championship disciplines. Across our competitors' stories, we have seen them use APAX in very different ways:
- Wataru designed water around clarity and a specific flavour experience.
- Ponlasit developed distinct brewing and dilution waters for his AeroPress routine.
- Emiliano treated water as one of hundreds of intentional decisions behind his winning routine.
Those approaches are not identical, and we would not expect them to be. What matters is that each competitor tested the system for themselves and decided it offered the control, practicality and repeatability they needed on stage.
That does not mean APAX caused the result.
A championship belongs to the competitor, the producers behind their coffee, their team, their brewing skill, sensory understanding, storytelling, and the enormous amount of work that preceded the final cup.
What repeated competition use gives us is something different: trust.
What That Trust Means to APAX LAB
Every time we see an APAX bottle on a competition table, it still feels special.
Behind that moment is usually months of work the audience never sees: coffees sourced, recipes rebuilt, cups tasted repeatedly and presentations refined until every detail matters.
When someone chooses APAX LAB as part of their final routine, they are trusting us with one carefully considered variable inside something that matters enormously to them.
That is the part we never want to become ordinary.
Competition pushes coffee professionals to question, test and understand variables far beyond everyday brewing. APAX LAB was created to give brewers greater control over one of them.
Seeing competitors take that tool, test it rigorously, adapt it to their own coffees, and ultimately decide that it belongs in their preparation is one of the strongest forms of validation we can receive.
Not because champions use APAX, but because people who have spent months or years refining every detail of a performance have chosen to trust it.
To every competitor who has experimented with our concentrates, shared a recipe, given us feedback, or brought APAX onto a competition stage: thank you.
We are proud to play one supporting role in much bigger journeys, and we will keep working to earn that place.
